Kitchen, MIA

Contrary to what people might think, or even what I might have posted, there are many things I will miss about Texas.

 I will miss great friends. You know who you are.

 I will miss our current house, which has a design that delights me every day. I especially love the layout for the kitchen and living room.

 So I'll miss that when I leave.

 Shoot, I'm missing the kitchen already. I know it is in here somewhere!

A Moving Experience

We moved a lot as children. As a career Navy man, we moved, on average, every two years of my growing up life, until I entered 11th grade and we finally settled down in Rockford, Michigan. Of course, that meant that a few years later I embarked on my own adventures. I have lived in a relatively small area of the country for the last forty years, but we're moving to Michigan now. As an adult, I have never had to deal with a move of this magnitude.  Moving to Houston in 1980 was easy. I packed everything I owned in a bag and jumped on a bus. Travel is only a Memory

Retire. Travel. See the world. Covid-19 put a hold on all that. I actually miss traveling. We did drive back to Michigan last September to visit the three children and two grandsons that were in the Houston area at that time. The idea was to go to our grandson Andy's birthday party. That didn't work out as planned. The trip lasted from September 22, 2020 until October 3, 2020. Our travel fare consisted mostly of drive through dining, which functioned well. Bathroom stops (an important consideration when you're our age) were best conducted at the rest stops along the way. Our car routed us south through Louisiana on the way to Pearland, Texas. We deviated and drove through Texarkana instead, a much more familiar route. On the way back I decided we'd take the route the car plotted for us, through Louisiana and north. Did I mention using highway rest stops instead of gas stations and restaurants? Going to Pearland the state rest stops were clean and well-maintained. Coming

Jiggety Jig

Until the moment we arrived at his house my brother wasn't sure we were really moving to Michigan. We expected our furniture on November 25th. Darling finally got someone on the phone on Wednesday the 27th and they confirmed our shipment was in a warehouse in Dallas, TX. A lot of good that did us. We bought a couch and love seat and an air mattress and moved into the house anyway. After all, we wanted to be in the house we bought. The house is more lovely than the photos. The view of the natural lake out our huge living room window is fabulous, unobstructed by the leaves that will cover the trees in the spring. Still, it's culture shock for us both. I've lived my entire adult life in the Houston area and Darling is a native Houstonian, subjected to cold and snow only on trips. I bought a snow blower and yard tools. My brother, Northern Viking that he is, came over and uncovered our yard from the piles and piles of leaves littering the ground. Our furniture arriv
